To Our Lady Patrons…

Apparently, this sign hanging in the Somerville Theatre dates from the 1930’s. The post tagged onto the sign explains that this was a common practice for all cinemas through the depression.

While many theatres dropped this practice after WW II, the Somerville Theatre continued this well into the 60’s. According to the owner of the theatre at that time, Arthur Viano, “You had to have a gimmick!” to stay ahead of the competition.
